About the position

The Welder position at the Steamship Authority involves performing various welding and metal fabrication tasks. Successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring high-quality welds and may need to demonstrate their skills during the interview process.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding using SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW techniques.
• Conduct pipe fitting and plasma cutting tasks.
• Utilize oxygen and acetylene burning methods for metal work.
• Engage in all aspects of structural fabrication.
• Fit and weld aluminum components as required.
• Ensure compliance with ASME Code and 46 CFR Parts 56 & 57.
• Demonstrate metal fabrication skills during the interview process.
• Pass a welding qualification/certification for steel and aluminum within 100 days of employment.

Requirements

• Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW welding techniques.
• Experience in pipe fitting and plasma cutting.
• Knowledge of oxygen and acetylene burning methods.
• Expertise in structural fabrication and aluminum fitting and welding.
• Ability to satisfy ASME Code and 46 CFR Parts 56 & 57 requirements.
• Valid Massachusetts Driver's license.
