About the position

As a Welding and Joining Engineer for Body-in-White at Volvo Group, you will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and quality of vehicle bodies. This role involves overseeing welding and joining processes, optimizing weld quality, reducing production costs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize welding processes and parameters for multiple welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and Resistance Welding.
  • Support production operations by designing, training, and implementing Welding Process Specifications (WPS).
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure weld integrity and adherence to industry standards.
  • Work closely with materials engineers to select appropriate materials and coatings for welding processes.
  • Evaluate, select, and maintain welding equipment, robotics, and controls to improve efficiency.
  • Establish optimum weld machine settings to support cycle time reduction and improved consumable utilization.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to identify and implement process enhancements.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including weld schedules and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards in all welding processes.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to assess and improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of welding materials and equipment.
  • Support Project leaders in BIW welding projects from conception to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Welding Engineering or similar engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience in low-mix, high-volume manufacturing, fabrication, or assemblies welding processes.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Robot and PLC programming experience for automated welding processes.
  • Knowledge of resistance welding machine settings.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental standards related to welding processes.
