About The Position

The Wellness Advocate will coordinate the overall well-being of staff and their family members within the Winston-Salem Police Department by focusing on three key areas: Physical Fitness and Nutrition, Mental Health and Peer Support, and Financial Wellness and Family Preparedness. This role involves administrative and professional tasks, requiring a high level of confidentiality, and is performed under the general direction of the Police Chief.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Health Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion & Wellness, Human Health & Services, Human Resource Management or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in health and wellness-related field.
  • Experience with or willingness to work with public safety professional populations and their families.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within one year of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Exercise Science, Health Science(s) or related field.
  • Progressive experience in exercise prescription and administration of exercise stress tests.
  • Five (5) years of experience in health and wellness-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of the department's holistic health and wellness services.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with employees by attending agency events, incident scenes, and division gatherings.
  • Design and implement comprehensive exercise and nutrition programs for employees following health assessments.
  • Educate and provide counseling to maintain or improve employees' physical performance and health.
  • Coordinate training and education on financial health, mental health, peer support, and suicide prevention.
  • Serve as a clinical advisor to the WSPD Peer Support Team and Chaplain Services.
  • Respond to critical incident scenes providing holistic services to employees.
  • Advise the WSPD Wellness Committee and organize committee findings for program incorporation.
  • Provide and coordinate confidential incident debriefs for individuals and families.
  • Assist in coordinating resources for various wellness initiatives and programs.
