About the position

The Captain/Pilot at Marquette Transportation Company is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and crew, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. This role involves conducting safety drills, managing crew performance, and overseeing the vessel's budget while maintaining communication with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and performance of the crew, vessel, and tow.
• Ensure compliance with company policy, rules, and regulations.
• Conduct monthly drills and safety meetings in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Ensure work is completed in accordance with Company safety policies and practices.
• Provide instruction to crew members on job performance and monitor their performance.
• Carry out duties assigned under the Vessel Security Plan as the designated vessel security officer.
• Ensure crew members understand the cargo and associated hazards of each barge in tow.
• Enforce Company policies and vessel-specific guidelines in support of the Crew Endurance Management System.
• Participate in crew management, performance evaluation, and general supervisory duties.
• Complete required log entries and maintain radio watch as required.
• Report Certain Dangerous Cargoes (CDC) to the Inland River Vessel Movement Center.
• Give assignments and direction to the mate and/or lead deckhand.
• Comply with established vessel management policies and procedures.
• Maintain the vessel budget and help maximize cost efficiency.

Requirements

• Retain a USCG Master of Towing Vessels license endorsed for service.
• Able to work 28/14 or 28/28 schedule.
• Meet USCG physical examination requirements.
• Be able to travel to and from vessel/training locations via air or car travel.
• Maintain an active TWIC.
