About the position

Whitham Planning Design Landscape Architecture (WPD) is seeking a Project Manager to join our dynamic landscape architectural design, planning, and project management firm. This full-time position will involve managing and collaborating on a variety of projects, ranging from large community planning initiatives to small-scale custom designs. The Project Manager will play a crucial role in guiding projects through the design process, which includes creating conceptual and technical drawings, facilitating public reviews and approvals, and overseeing construction phases. The ideal candidate will possess strong graphic and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with diverse audiences, including clients, stakeholders, and the general public. At WPD, we believe that our work significantly influences the identity and experience of the spaces we design. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading project coordination during municipal approvals, managing project schedules, and ensuring that all relevant deliverables are met in collaboration with team members. You will also prepare and deliver presentations, facilitate outreach meetings, and summarize site research to inform design decisions. The role requires a proactive approach to developing technical landscape architectural drawings and supporting construction administration tasks. Responsibilities

  • Manage and collaborate on 1-6 large- and small-scale projects during all stages of the coordination, planning, and design process
  • Lead project coordination during municipal approvals including SEQR, Zoning, and Site Plan Review submission documents
  • Manage project approvals and design schedules, coordinating relevant deliverables with team members
  • Lead project team meetings, including preparing meeting agendas and follow-up notes
  • Prepare well-crafted and clear written project materials
  • Deliver spoken and visual presentations to project stakeholders and the general public
  • Act as point of contact between client and consultant teams
  • Prepare stakeholder and public outreach plans and facilitate outreach meetings and workshops
  • Summarize site research including relevant zoning, permitting, site conditions, and historic information
  • Prepare site analysis and concept development diagrams and precedent studies
  • Lead the development of Master Plan documents and other comparable reports
  • Develop technical landscape architectural drawings including site layout, planting, and materials plans and details
  • Support construction administration, including reviewing Requests for Information and preparing site visit reports
  • Closely collaborate with other WPD staff and maintain a collegial, collaborative, and supportive office environment

Requirements

  • 3 - 5 years of professional landscape architectural design or planning experience
  • Professional Degree in Landscape Architecture or Planning
  • Expert communication, organization, writing, and presentation skills
  • Expertise in AutoCAD and Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and analysis
  • Fluency in 3D rendering software
