About the position

The Wholesale Credit Risk Manager plays a critical role in managing and monitoring a diverse portfolio of client credit exposures across various industry classes. This position is responsible for underwriting credit requests, which include new loans, renewals, and modifications, acting as the credit expert within the first line of defense. The manager will recommend credit structures and provide effective challenges to ensure the quality and profitability of the assigned portfolio while adhering to the Wholesale risk philosophy, risk appetite, and lending strategies. This role also serves as an additional point of contact for clients, ensuring a high level of responsiveness and communication regarding risk and return with Wholesale banker partners. In this position, the manager will collaborate closely with bankers on loan closings, ensuring that all documentation for new and amended deals, as well as waivers and modifications, is accurate and complete. The role requires navigating a wide variety of financial structures and credit scenarios, conducting thorough analyses of financial data, and performing projection modeling and stress testing. The manager will assess deal strengths and weaknesses, establish risk ratings for transactions, and coordinate memos to facilitate credit-related approvals, which may include derivative, p-card, treasury, and letter of credit approvals. Additionally, the Wholesale Credit Risk Manager will interact with deal teams at agent banks regarding buy-side syndicated transactions and collaborate with participating banks on multi-bank deals. The position involves ensuring compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, monitoring existing client credit for potential issues, and initiating discussions with bankers to ensure clients maintain positive operating performance. The manager will also prepare internal and external regulatory exam responses, assist in cross-selling efforts, and participate in special projects. Training, mentoring, and developing junior team members is also a key responsibility, as is driving innovation and continuous efficiency improvements within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor a portfolio of client credit exposures across industry classes.
  • Underwrite credit requests including new loans, renewals, and modifications.
  • Recommend credit structures and provide effective challenges to ensure quality and profitability of the portfolio.
  • Ensure adherence to the Wholesale risk philosophy, risk appetite, and lending strategies.
  • Serve as an additional point of client contact, maintaining high client responsiveness.
  • Collaborate with bankers on loan closings to ensure proper documentation of new and amended deals.
  • Conduct analysis and structuring of credit requests for clients and prospects.
  • Develop client assessments including in-depth analyses of financial data.
  • Conduct projection modeling, stress testing, and other analyses using various research sources.
  • Assess deal strengths and weaknesses and establish risk ratings for transactions.
  • Facilitate all credit-related approvals to provide superior risk management and client service.
  • Interact with deal teams at agent banks regarding buy-side syndicated transactions.
  • Collaborate with bankers and bank attorneys regarding loan documentation and closing processes.
  • Interface with Wholesale loan operations team regarding booking of new and amended deals.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor existing client credit on a daily basis for issues or concerns.
  • Initiate discussions with bankers to ensure client positive operating performance.
  • Prepare internal and external regulatory exam responses and assist in cross-selling efforts.
  • Train, mentor, and develop Analysts and junior team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline or a combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience as a Wholesale Credit Risk Manager I; or six years of credit analysis or commercial banking experience in corporate banking, middle market, or CRE.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and credit mitigants.
  • Knowledge of risk ratings analysis, corporate finance, and/or research.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling ability.

  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software products, including advanced Excel modeling skills.
