About the position

The Wholesale Property Underwriter at The Hartford is responsible for underwriting, servicing, and growing a profitable book of Excess and Surplus (E&S) Property business. This role involves collaboration with wholesale brokers and requires expertise in various property classes, including habitational and light manufacturing. The position emphasizes a customer-first mindset, critical thinking, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic business environment, while also providing opportunities for career advancement in technical or leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite, service, and grow a profitable book of E&S Property business.
• Collaborate with a wide range of wholesale brokers.
• Focus on underwriting named perils, all risks, and single catastrophe related risks.
• Develop and maintain solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
• Analyze data and employ critical thinking to make informed decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 5+ years of Commercial Property underwriting experience; E&S Property underwriting experience preferred.
• Prior experience working within the wholesale distribution channel preferred.
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining relationships with business partners.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to think analytically about business problems and propose solutions.
• High energy self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
• Goal-oriented with a focus on delivering outcomes.
• Ability to challenge the status quo.
