About the position

The WiFi Performance Test Engineer will be responsible for conducting performance tests on WiFi devices, utilizing various test equipment and tools. This role requires a strong background in RF concepts, networking, and hands-on experience with performance testing tools. The engineer will also be involved in debugging, scripting, and documenting results to ensure robust network device validation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct performance tests using Octoscope, Candela, or Veriwave test equipment to evaluate WiFi device performance.
  • Work with RF concepts such as splitters, attenuators, antennas, and RF shielded boxes.
  • Utilize lab equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes, for testing and validation.
  • Work with TCP-IP and L2 networking/switches, utilizing Wireshark for debugging.
  • Test and validate devices using protocols like TR-069.
  • Write and customize shell scripts to validate CPE (e.g., TR-069 routers) on the network.
  • Run experiments involving ports, WiFi radios, SSIDs, and packet analysis.
  • Utilize automation tools like Python or Expect for testing processes.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, use debugging tools, and solve technical issues efficiently.
  • Generate throughput (TPut), KPIs, and other performance metrics.
  • Compile test reports and prepare presentations with findings.
  • Maintain clear and detailed documentation of tests, processes, and results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in WiFi performance testing.
  • Hands-on expertise with Octoscope, Candela, or Veriwave equipment is essential.
  • Prior experience in debugging and problem-solving in network environments.
  • Strong understanding of RF concepts and lab test equipment.
  • Proficiency in TCP-IP, L2 networking, and tools like Wireshark.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Shell and Python.
  • Knowledge of device management protocols (e.g., TR-069) and network automation.
  • Experience with L3 networking/routers is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting capabilities.
