About the position

The Editor position is situated within WIDA's Communications and Marketing department and is designed to enhance the quality and accessibility of internal and external communications. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Communications, the Editor will play a pivotal role in reviewing and editing a variety of materials, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of clarity, accuracy, and compliance with editorial guidelines. This role involves close collaboration with graphic design teams to create optimal layouts that enhance the usability of WIDA publications. Additionally, the Editor will manage the translation of communications and publications as necessary, ensuring that all materials are accessible to a diverse audience. A significant aspect of this position is the responsibility for auditing and remediating documents to ensure they comply with accessibility guidelines. The Editor will work collaboratively across teams and the organization to support accessibility efforts, which includes editing both internal and external communications. The position offers the flexibility of working fully remote within the United States, although international remote work is not permitted. Any requests for remote work will be subject to review based on the University of Wisconsin and School of Education remote work policies. Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise and oversight in areas relating to rights, permissions, and overall content production.
  • Reviews content for completeness, accuracy, and correctness to align with editorial or client objectives.
  • Edits, revises, and proofreads materials and resolves errors or inconsistencies in style, syntax, grammar, and format.
  • Plans, develops, creates, and publishes internal and/or external communications.
  • Manages production deadlines.
  • Provides information and consultative advice about editorial policies, procedures, and services to contributing stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains the style guide, including editorial standards and policies.
  • Works with graphic design to optimize publications.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in editing and proofreading communications and publications.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility guidelines and best practices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with graphic design teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
