About The Position

The Wildland Firefighter Apprentice position is a developmental trainee role within the Bureau of Indian Affairs, focusing on wildland firefighting operations. Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Successful completion of a background security investigation is required.
• Pre-employment and random drug testing is mandatory.
• Physical fitness testing for arduous duty is required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in firefighting or related fields is preferred.
• Completion of coursework in Fire Science or related fields is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a registered apprentice in a developmental capacity as a wildland firefighter trainee.
• Perform all aspects of wildland and prescribed fire operations, including line construction and mop-up activities.
• Utilize ignition devices and hand tools for firefighting tasks.
• Fight wildland fires in extreme heat conditions and austere environments, including outdoor camping.
• Start and service pump engines, lay hoses, and use appropriate nozzles for effective water application.
• Complete necessary training requirements and maintain physical fitness for advancement in the apprenticeship program.
