About the position

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Wildlife Biologist 1 located in Delta Junction. Under the general supervision of the Delta Area Wildlife Biologist, this position serves as the manager for the Delta Junction Bison Range, with primary responsibilities for development and implementation of habitat management and enhancement plans. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with planning, developing, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating complex management programs for big game, small game, furbearers, and other species in Game Management Unit 20D. Management of bison, moose, caribou, sheep, bears, wolves, furbearers, and small game are all part of normal duties. The Division of Wildlife Conservation's mission is to conserve and enhance Alaska's wildlife and habitats and provide for a wide range of public uses and benefits. This position is defined by our core services that maintain and enhance opportunities to hunt, trap, and view wildlife because it helps to provide people an opportunity to gain knowledge and appreciation for Alaska's wildlife, its management, and ways to interact with wildlife safely and ethically.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Delta Junction Bison Range.
  • Develop and implement habitat management and enhancement plans.
  • Assist with planning, developing, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating management programs for various wildlife species.
  • Conduct aerial wildlife surveys and capture projects.
  • Interact with the public, including hunters and trappers.
  • Prepare management reports and scientific papers.

Requirements

  • Experience managing or researching wildlife habitat, big game, furbearers, or small game species.
  • Experience implementing habitat enhancement or manipulation programs.
  • Experience planning and conducting aerial wildlife surveys and capture projects.
  • Experience working with the public, especially hunters and trappers.
  • Experience preparing management reports and scientific papers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Commercial Driver's License.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.
