About the position

The Wind Collection Electrical Engineer at Westwood Professional Services will be responsible for designing electrical collection systems for on-shore wind farms. This role involves applying various electrical codes and standards to produce detailed electrical layout plans, one-line diagrams, and construction drawings. The engineer will lead a design team, collaborate with project stakeholders, and ensure that project milestones are met while maintaining high-quality work standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of design for medium voltage systems including calculations and analysis.
• Conduct underground cable thermal analysis and electrical loss analysis of conductors and transformers.
• Perform short circuit analysis and effective grounding calculations.
• Conduct fiber optic loss calculations and load flow analysis.
• Review utility scale renewable energy project interconnection requirements.
• Develop technical specifications and bills of materials for electrical installations.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, and environmental staff to produce a well-coordinated design.
• Attend client technical review meetings and communicate client interests to project team members.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years related work experience in medium voltage collection system design for renewable energy systems.
• Basic proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Strong proficiency in Cymcap software for underground thermal analysis.
• Strong proficiency in electrical power system analysis tools such as Digsilent Power Factory or ETAP.
• Basic familiarity with electric grounding analysis software like WinIGS or CDEGS.
• Strong familiarity with NEC and National Electrical Safety Code.
• Good knowledge of industry trends specific to wind turbine generators.
