About the position

The Wine Director/Sommelier at Mentone Restaurant is a full-time role focused on curating and maintaining a wine list that complements the restaurant's culinary offerings. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for wine and fine dining, collaborating closely with the Chef to enhance the dining experience through expert wine selections.

Responsibilities

  • Curate and maintain a thoughtfully crafted wine list that complements the restaurant's focus on the Ligurian region.
  • Collaborate with Chef David Kinch to enhance the dining experience through wine pairings.
  • Manage cost control and inventory of wine selections.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and wine recommendations to guests.
  • Oversee wine service during dining hours and ensure proper storage and handling of wine.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in fine dining as a Wine Director or Sommelier for at least 2 years.
  • Advanced wine certification (e.g., WSET Level 2 or higher, or equivalent).
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of wine, including Italian, French, and local wines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in cost management and control.
  • Sales experience in a hospitality setting.
