About the position

The Seasonal Forest & Park Supervisor I position at Belle Isle Marsh Reservation involves overseeing the seasonal operations, administration, and maintenance of the facility. This role includes supervising staff, managing visitor services, and ensuring the maintenance of the park's resources and facilities. The position requires effective communication and relationship-building with various stakeholders, including the public and volunteer groups, while maintaining high standards of service and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and performs work related to the seasonal operation and maintenance of the assigned facility.
  • Oversees grounds maintenance, building and equipment maintenance, and recreational programming.
  • Manages assigned staff performing visitor recreation and education services, facility maintenance, and resource protection programs.
  • Assigns work, schedules shifts, and evaluates staff performance.
  • Maintains professional standards for visitor services, staff appearance, facility maintenance, public safety, and resource protection.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with Friends Groups and other organizations.
  • Communicates park activities and incidents to departmental staff and prepares various reports.
  • Coordinates activities and work of volunteers and court-referred individuals.
  • Determines supply needs and performs routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
  • Provides information to the public and conducts interviews for employment.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in forestry, parks, or recreational management.
  • An Associate's degree or higher in forestry, natural resources management, or parks and recreation management may substitute for required experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and policies governing assigned unit activities.
  • Familiarity with the geographic composition of the assigned work area.
  • Understanding of agency forms and their uses.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.
