About the position

The Ski Patrol EMT position at the National Winter Activity Center is designed to ensure the safety of participants engaging in winter sports. The role involves providing first-aid assistance, transporting injured participants, and conducting safety checks on ski lifts and slopes. The position requires a commitment to teamwork and effective communication, as well as the ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct lift safety checks and report any identified problems.
  • Check slopes for hazards and mark them appropriately.
  • Set up and break down additional netting required each operational day.
  • Monitor trail conditions for safety.
  • Respond to possible accidents and provide emergency medical care.
  • Transport patients from difficult terrain to safety.
  • Handle incidents through transfer to EMS.
  • Keep records and assist in accident investigations.
  • Inspect and maintain ski patrol equipment and supplies.
  • Perform chairlift evacuations when necessary.
  • Safely perform all job duties and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with other staff and departments as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Intermediate level skier or higher.
  • Current EMT Certification or Wilderness First Rescuer Certification.
  • Current Outdoor Emergency Transportation (OET) qualification.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, including radio communications.
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to follow instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • NSPS member in good standing preferred.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification preferred.
  • Experience in outdoor emergency care.
