About the position

The Wire Harness Designer position involves developing and maintaining wire harness designs and installation models, ensuring compliance with design requirements while collaborating with internal and external customers. The role requires creativity in solving design challenges and mentoring less experienced staff in CAD and design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Wire Harness physical design and installation models.
  • Perform assigned tasks meeting quality, schedule, and process compliance expectations.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with customers to develop design solutions.
  • Contact subcontractors and suppliers to exchange technical data and coordinate project execution.
  • Ensure application of business unit best practices and identify the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools.
  • Translate program technical requirements into work requirements, processes, and tasks.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems requiring ingenuity and innovation.
  • Mentor less experienced staff in the use of CAD and other design tools.
  • Identify and communicate the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools or new/enhanced design requirements and provide solutions.
  • Ensure design optimization through commonality, cost, weight, producibility, and maintainability of design.
  • Communicate and implement design solutions and ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Confer with experienced designers and subject matter experts to interpret design concepts and coordinate work with others.
  • Apply knowledge of airplane and component production methods in the fabrication design of electrical wiring.
  • Follow documented processes, specifications, and procedures supporting wire harness bundle design and manufacturing.
  • Investigate moderately complex manufacturing processes or engineering-related issues and develop solutions.
  • Facilitate the implementation of 2D and 3D Wire Harness physical design and installation between internal and external customers.
  • Monitor and provide the status of wire installation activities at the airplane level.
  • Provide Major/Minor determination for change classification as a Design Approval Engineer (DAE).
  • Adhere to safe work practices and contribute to the health, safety, and environmental program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent with 4-5 years of experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an engineering classification.
  • Minimum 2 years of CAD design experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of Electrical/Mechanical design or installation experience.
  • Minimum 2 years in the Aerospace industry (preferred).

  • Expertise in engineering principles, theories, technologies, and concepts in the assigned discipline.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management.
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of fabrication/manufacturing processes for applicable designs.
  • Capability to integrate overall System/Airframe designs.
  • Understanding of design requirements flow, validation, and compliance verification.
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD design (CATIA Electrical Workbench Preferred).
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications.
