About the position

The Wireless Network Development Engineer at OTIE Wireless Engineering is responsible for developing and enhancing software-defined wireless network infrastructure products that improve the reliability of wireless services across Amazon's fulfillment centers and transportation sites globally. This role involves collaborating with various teams to create innovative solutions that meet customer needs and ensure the availability of one of the largest wireless networks in the world.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, developing, and delivering technical solutions that improve the availability of wireless network technologies.
  • Partnering with peer teams to understand customer problems and find technological solutions utilizing wired networking technologies.
  • Defining and measuring the availability of existing and future network solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Delivering solutions that reduce operational impact and enable scalable, resilient, and cost-optimized services.
  • Diving deep on complex problems to identify root causes of customer impacts and developing corrective actions.
  • Evaluating new technologies, conducting lab testing, and defining run books for pilot deployments.
  • Innovating and automating infrastructure testing, deployment, operations, and lifecycle management.
  • Defining strategies for team processes and tools to improve maintenance and management efficiency.
  • Contributing to hiring and developing top talent at Amazon.
  • Developing automation to resolve wireless network failures.
  • Investigating problems to identify root causes and improve customer experience on Wi-Fi.
  • Creating and updating wireless network designs to enhance reliability.
  • Mitigating and solving network availability risks.
  • Partnering with peer networking teams to provide feedback and improvements from the wireless network perspective.
  • Participating in an on-call rotation and providing 24x7 escalation service.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in Wi-Fi or other managed RF networks operations and engineering.
  • Deep understanding of IP network fundamentals and packet capture analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years of automation scripting experience using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
  • Experience designing high-density AP and client deployments.
  • Expert knowledge of IP networking technologies and concepts, including routing and switching.
  • Expertise in managing large-scale wireless deployments with high availability requirements.
