About the position

The Wireless Radio Systems Engineer at Apple is a pivotal role within the Wireless Silicon Design group, focusing on the development of innovative wireless communication systems. This position involves designing radio models, evaluating radio performance, and collaborating with various engineering teams to create state-of-the-art wireless solutions. The engineer will work on RF/analog design, system integration, and algorithm development to enhance the performance and reliability of wireless products.

Responsibilities

  • Design radio models for wireless communication systems and RF/circuit impairments.
  • Develop methods/algorithms to alleviate impairments through calibration, pre-equalization, canceller, and/or pre-distortion techniques.
  • Evaluate radio performance in different scenarios using quantitative analysis and link simulation.
  • Collaborate with radio designers to create advanced radio architectures.
  • Work with digital designers to implement PHY/radio algorithms efficiently in terms of power and area.
  • Collaborate with firmware designers for high-efficiency software implementations of PHY/radio algorithms.
  • Bring up, test, characterize, and optimize real silicon in the lab.

Requirements

  • BSEE with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of RF and analog components/modules in wireless communication systems and their impairments.
  • Proven track record of RF calibration algorithms for RF impairments.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
  • Hands-on experience with lab testing and characterization tools such as spectrum analyzers and signal generators.

Nice-to-haves

  • MSEE/PhD with relevant experience.
  • Understanding of communication theory, information theory, and signal processing algorithms.
  • Analytical capability to develop optimal solutions for physical layer design.
  • Knowledge of existing wireless communication protocols such as 5G, LTE, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
  • Circuit design experience or knowledge.
