About the position

The Environmental Engineer Trainee position at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is an entry-level role designed for recent graduates or individuals with relevant qualifications. Under close supervision, the trainee will learn to conduct surveys, inspections, and investigations related to environmental conditions, review engineering plans, and gather data to support the enforcement of environmental laws and regulations. This position is part of a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing environmental protection and compliance across the state.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine surveys, studies, inspections, and investigations related to environmental conditions.
  • Review engineering plans and gather relevant data.
  • Research and analyze information pertaining to environmental laws and regulations enforcement.
  • Assist in the development of environmental permitting and compliance functions.
  • Participate in education and outreach efforts related to environmental protection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Biomedical, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural, or Mining Engineering, or related field.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification may substitute for the educational requirement.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam results in relevant disciplines.
  • Valid driver's license in New Jersey if vehicle operation is necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications.
