About the position
The Environmental Services Trainee position at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is an entry-level role designed for individuals to learn and assist in conducting surveys, studies, inspections, and investigations related to environmental conditions and the enforcement of environmental laws. Under close supervision, the trainee will engage in various activities aimed at improving and monitoring environmental conditions across the state, with opportunities for advancement upon successful completion of the training period.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine surveys and studies related to environmental conditions.
- Assist in inspections and investigations to enforce environmental laws and regulations.
- Support the Division of Land Resource Protection in environmental permitting and compliance functions.
- Participate in education and outreach efforts regarding environmental protection.
- Engage in projects aimed at reducing water quality impairment and enhancing the quality of state waters.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, Physical Geography, or various engineering disciplines.
- Valid driver's license in New Jersey if vehicle operation is necessary for job duties.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is preferred.
