About the position

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) will serve as the Department Lead for Obstetrics and Gynecology within the Medical Staff, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This role involves being an integral member of a multidisciplinary team focused on the perinatal program, collaborating closely with an assigned physician for supervision and consultation. The CNM/WHNP will participate in peer-review, quality improvement measures, and program improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include obtaining health histories, performing comprehensive physical examinations, ordering and interpreting lab results, developing differential diagnoses, and creating therapeutic plans of care. The position also requires maintaining patient records according to organizational policy, evaluating patient responses to care plans, and providing counseling and education to patients and families. Additionally, the CNM/WHNP will arrange for patient referrals and consultations, care for obstetrical patients including high-risk cases, provide contraceptive care, conduct STD screenings, manage pregnancy testing and care, evaluate and treat common infections, and provide care before and after menopause.

Responsibilities

  • Order and interpret lab results and other diagnostic studies
  • Develop differential diagnoses
  • Develop/order therapeutic plan of care
  • Maintain patient records per organization policy
  • Evaluate patient's response to plan of care and modify as needed
  • Provide patient/family counseling and education
  • Arrange for patient referrals/consultations
  • Care of the obstetrical patient, including high-risk Ob patients
  • Contraceptive care
  • STD screening and follow up
  • Pregnancy testing and care before, during and after pregnancy
  • Evaluation and treatment of common infections
  • Care before and after menopause

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice Degree with specialized training as a CNM (preferred) or Women's Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Graduation from an accredited MSN or DNP program
  • Licensed and approved to practice in Maryland as a RN and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Prescriptive authority
  • Five years of clinical experience preferred, with consideration for candidates with three to four years of experience based on qualifications and references
