About the position

As a Work & Community Support Specialist at Work Opportunities Unlimited, you will play a vital role in assisting individuals with barriers to employment in achieving meaningful work and community engagement. This position is designed for those who are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of others and who thrive in a collaborative team environment. Your primary responsibilities will include providing long-term, on-site job support for clients throughout their employment journey, serving as a coach and advocate to foster their success in the workplace, and supporting client participation in volunteer and recreational activities. These activities are essential for developing self-advocacy, independent living, and communication skills, ultimately helping clients to lead a preferred lifestyle within their community. In this role, you will engage with clients in various settings, ensuring they have the necessary support to navigate their work and community life effectively. You will be responsible for creating a supportive environment that encourages independence and personal growth. The position requires a commitment to understanding each client's unique needs and working collaboratively with them to set and achieve their goals. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the Management Training Program if you have prior experience managing a small team or have demonstrated informal leadership in sports, clubs, or civic organizations. This is a part-time position with flexible daytime hours from Monday to Friday, allowing you to balance work with other commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide long-term, on-site job support for the duration of a client's employment.
  • Serve as a coach and advocate for clients to foster success in the workplace.
  • Support client participation in volunteer and/or other recreational activities to help develop self-advocacy, independent living, and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License and comfortable with travel within the community.
  • Availability for Monday - Friday daytime hours, with flexibility offered for part-time work.
  • Comfortable using technology for documentation and organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in management of a small team.
  • Informal leadership experience in sports, clubs, or civic organizations.
