About the position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring that the cloud remains operational and accessible. As a Data Center Technician in the Work Based Learning Program (WBLP), you will be part of a diverse team that includes software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Your role will involve collaborating with various stakeholders across AWS to uphold the highest standards of safety and security while providing extensive capacity at minimal costs for our customers. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to tackle complex challenges and contribute to the continuous improvement of our data center operations. The WBLP is a 12-month program that will take place in our Ohio facilities, with openings available from October to December 2024. As a trainee, you will engage in hands-on training and gain valuable experience in data center operations. The role requires physical capabilities, including lifting and moving up to 40 pounds regularly, and participating in group lifts for heavier items. You will also need to work in a 24/7 environment, which may involve after-hours support and participation in primary responder rotations. The job entails working in various conditions, including cramped, elevated, and noisy environments, and requires physical activities such as bending, lifting, stretching, and standing for extended periods. In this position, you will be expected to perform server rack installations, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents that may affect service availability. You will serve as a primary contact for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers and vendors, and will be responsible for on-call duties and scheduled maintenance activities. Your contributions will also include documentation and process improvement initiatives based on your analysis of operational issues. Responsibilities

  • Performing server rack installations and hardware break-fix on various components.
  • Troubleshooting network issues and responding to operational incidents that impact service availability.
  • Serving as a primary contact point for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Performing on-call duties and participating in scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
  • Contributing to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent diploma.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Willingness to participate in shift rotations to support 24/7 data center operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of computer hardware components and operating systems.
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system and coordination with Manager.
  • STEM classes or vocational course curriculum education.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon's leadership principles requirements and functional/technical depths and complexity for this role.
