The Work Planning and Control (WPC) Program at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is focused on enhancing the safety and efficiency of laboratory operations. This position is integral to a multi-year project aimed at developing a new Work Planning and Control system that will improve visibility into laboratory work pipelines, assist in planning laboratory capabilities, and ensure that integrated safety management is applied to all activities. The successful candidate will join a newly formed team dedicated to sustaining the program and driving continuous improvement through collaboration across the organization. This role will evolve as the WPC program transitions from development to deployment and ultimately to continuous operations. The primary responsibility of the Product Owner is to enhance the software system, documentation, and training materials associated with the WPC program. This position requires a highly collaborative individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment and possesses a problem-solving mindset to develop effective working methods within the team. The WPC Program is committed to ensuring that all staff can work safely and efficiently while meeting safety and laboratory requirements. The successful candidate will manage an application governance committee, function as the product owner for individual WPC application tools, and partner with subject matter experts from various stakeholder organizations to continuously improve the application. Responsibilities also include establishing and maintaining an integrated product roadmap, prioritizing software bugs, collaborating with the Information Technology Services (ITS) organization for software enhancements, and leading communication for feature releases and system outages. The role also involves creating and maintaining training materials, engaging stakeholders through various communication methods, mentoring team members, and providing onboarding support to field-deployed WPC staff. The candidate will interface with management and external partners to achieve program goals while actively participating in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) activities.
