The Workday Change Control Manager at Stanford Health Care plays a pivotal role in supporting the core functions of the health system's business and financial applications. The manager will implement, administer, and support assigned systems with minimal guidance from senior team members, addressing complex issues and design decisions independently. Clear communication and documentation of intricate concepts related to applications, interfaces, data structures, and workflows across the organization are essential responsibilities of this role. In this position, the manager will provide tier-2 support for application incidents reported through the help desk, including 24/7 on-call coverage as required. They will act as a technology subject matter expert, effectively communicating technical concepts in business terms to influence outcomes across various groups. The role involves leading complex software upgrade initiatives, new software installations, and enhancement requests while maintaining up-to-date project documentation that includes technical details, user expectations, project goals, work effort, accountability, and deliverables. The Workday Change Control Manager will continually identify opportunities for automation and lead internal initiatives to implement them. Ensuring high availability and disaster recovery of all critical systems is a key responsibility, which includes leading periodic failover and disaster recovery tests in collaboration with infrastructure and end-user groups. The manager will also work with infrastructure teams to develop an environment management strategy, actively monitor application usage and growth, and ensure appropriate scalability through software, workflow, and infrastructure enhancements. Collaboration with infrastructure and end-user teams to develop data archive and purge strategies is also part of the role. Additionally, the manager will identify system optimizations and enhancements, collaborating with vendors and other IT analysts to design and implement effective solutions. They will mentor and train junior staff members, participate in cross-functional teams, and facilitate meetings to advance clinical delivery and quality outcomes through effective use of clinical software. The position requires a strong technical and business operations background, with the ability to analyze complex systems and workflows, engage in challenging discussions, and negotiate effectively on behalf of the department and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tier-2 support of application incidents reported through the help desk, including 24/7 on-call coverage as required.

  • Maintain up-to-date project documents for all initiatives, including technical details and user expectations.
  • Identify areas of opportunity for automation and lead internal initiatives to implement them.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to develop an environment management strategy.
  • Monitor application usage and growth, ensuring appropriate scalability via enhancements.
  • Develop data archive and purge strategies in collaboration with infrastructure and end-user teams.
  • Identify system optimizations and enhancements, collaborating with vendors and IT analysts.
  • Mentor and train junior staff members, acting as a third level of support.
  • Facilitate and organize team and cross-team meetings, maintaining appropriate records.
  • Research issues and produce solution options for complex matters, including pros, cons, risks, and benefits.
  • Review system configuration and design options for maintenance requests.
  • Ensure smooth turnover of projects to Operations, Support Service, and Clients.
  • Create and administer support event feedback mechanisms to improve first call resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Computer Science, Business Management, or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education/work experience.
  • 5+ years of supporting process flow, configuration design, and integration of complex Human Capital Management (HCM) systems such as Workday, Lawson, or API in a healthcare organization.
  • Experience with Workday HCM software, Lawson, ADP, and API software applications is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical and business operations background with high credibility in a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of SDLC, Agile, and other software development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with server operating systems, storage systems, databases, scripting languages, and monitoring tools.
  • Excellent written, oral, instructional, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
