About the position

The Hartford is seeking a Business Data Analyst to join the Regulatory Reporting Workers Compensation Financial call team. This position is crucial for providing business and data analysis support for several highly visible, business-critical applications. The Workers Compensation Financial call team is responsible for delivering information on Financial Call components, which include Premiums, Losses, Claim Counts, and Loss Adjustment Expenses. This role will involve determining what experience should be included or excluded when reporting Financial Call data. The aggregate Financial Calls are essential as they provide timely information necessary for each state's overall cost analysis, which is vital for developing the state's rate or loss cost filing needed by the rating Bureau's. In this role, you will apply your functional knowledge and techniques to accurately draw out data and analytics business requirements from stakeholders. You will be responsible for requirements planning, monitoring, and management. The position requires independent performance of data analysis, data discovery, and data profiling using industry-standard querying tools to support the development of business requirements that are complete, clear, unambiguous, well-written, and appropriate for the audience. You will maintain Data mapping documents, Bus Matrix, and other Data Design artifacts that define business data requirements and transformation rules. As a liaison and advisor/consultant between business and IT stakeholders, you will perform and aid in functional testing. You will structure and drive working and informational sessions that promote collaboration and synergy to achieve desired outcomes. Understanding the scope of the project and helping to resolve scope questions and issues related to your work will be essential. Additionally, you will handle root cause analysis of business data issues and provide technical data guidance on these issues, helping to resolve any scope questions and issues that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Apply functional knowledge and techniques to draw out data and analytics business requirements from stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in business requirements and/or data analysis supporting the Insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation Insurance required.
  • Proficient in industry-standard querying tools (Toad, Toad for Data Analysts, SQL).
  • Proficient in Excel, including building and updating macros.
  • Experience working on data warehouse or reporting/analytic projects.
  • Strong facilitation, requirements elicitation, and data analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a timeline-driven environment.
  • Effective presentation skills.
