About the position

The Workers Compensation Case Manager - Leave Specialist is responsible for managing employee communications and overseeing Workers Compensation case management, as well as handling various leaves of absence, including public safety injury on duty. This role serves as an intermediary, coordinating cases and claims among employees, medical providers, carriers, and managers while ensuring compliance with relevant laws such as Workers Compensation, FMLA, and ADA. The position requires exemplary customer service and organizational skills to effectively support employees and manage leave programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage Workers Compensation and leave of absence cases for town and school employees.
  • Process injury reports and case intakes, coordinating medical and rehabilitation services as needed.
  • Facilitate safe return to work for injured employees.
  • Conduct primary intake and referral for work-related injuries.
  • Establish and maintain contact with injured employees or those on leave of absence.
  • Facilitate medical appointments or referrals and maintain communication with department managers regarding medical work status.
  • Partner with departments on job duty modifications based on medical limitations and functional assessments.
  • Maintain confidential medical files and case documents for all parties involved.
  • Act as the primary contact for the Third Party Administrator and outside counsel for work injuries.
  • Administer FMLA, ADA, Reasonable Accommodation, and Parental Leave programs, including required paperwork and communication with employees and supervisors.
  • Analyze injuries in relation to OSHA safety regulations and make recommendations for safety reviews or training.
  • Assist with Employee Safety Program and Emergency Response programs.
  • Coordinate on-site training services for managers and employees on related topics.
  • Compile documentation for Accidental Disability Retirements and coordinate drug and alcohol testing for CDL drivers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Workers Compensation administration, insurance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Workers Compensation administration, insurance claims management, or human resources.
  • Experience in leave and absence management and employee relations is highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical professionals, vendors, and attorneys.
  • Strong organizational skills and customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with OSHA regulations and safety training programs.
  • Knowledge of local workers' compensation and leave laws and regulations.
