About the position

The Workers' Compensation Claims Technician at Liberty Mutual is responsible for processing routine workers' compensation claims, providing ongoing medical management for medical pension claims, and ensuring that injured workers receive accurate and timely information. This role involves conducting investigations, verifying information, and maintaining contact with injured workers, medical providers, and employers to facilitate effective claims processing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigation to secure essential facts from injured worker, employer, and providers regarding workers' compensation claims.
  • Verify information from claimants, physicians, and medical providers to assess compensability and causal relation of medical treatment.
  • Provide ongoing medical case management for assigned claims.
  • Initiate calls to injured workers and medical providers to resolve medical treatment issues as needed.
  • Maintain contact with injured workers, providers, and employers to ensure understanding of protocols and claims processing.
  • Assess claim status to determine if problem cases should be referred to Claims Service Team or benefit from medical review.
  • Arrange Independent Medical Exams and Peer Reviews as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and handle administrative responsibilities associated with claims processing and payment.
  • Document results of contacts, relevant medical reports, and duration information per file posting standards.
  • Generate form letters following set guidelines for communication with stakeholders.
  • Authorize payment of medical payments and/or medical treatment.
  • Recognize potential subrogation cases and prepare them for referral to the Subrogation Units.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of related customer service experience or applicable insurance knowledge.
  • Effective analytical skills to learn and apply basic policy/contract coverage.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to explain decisions clearly to customers.
  • Effective written skills for composing clear descriptions and correspondence.
  • Good telephone and typing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensing in some states may be required.
  • Experience in medical management resources.
