About the position

The Workers' Compensation Underwriter will be responsible for soliciting, selecting, evaluating, and quoting Workers Compensation business by applying sound underwriting judgment and adhering to company policy and state regulations. Prior Workers' Compensation experience is preferred but not required. In this role, you will evaluate, select, and price new and renewal Workers Compensation policies to achieve an underwriting profit. You will adhere to company guidelines and comply with state regulations while soliciting and underwriting profitable business from assigned agencies within the scope of delegated underwriting authority. It is essential to maintain and grow profitable business partners by responding to inquiries and resolving agency problems in a timely, professional, and informative manner. Additionally, you will evaluate agents by participating in ongoing agency analysis and reviews in accordance with Corporate Policies and Procedures. You will develop information regarding local market opportunities and competition and make recommendations regarding new products and rates. Supporting the efforts of all Company Departments to develop profitable business is also a key responsibility. Frequent communication with other department staff is necessary to stay apprised of changes in company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited University in a related field required.
  • One (1) + years of Commercial Underwriting experience specifically in Workers Compensation preferred.
  • Ability to problem-solve in unfamiliar situations.
  • Ability to communicate concerns and solutions effectively.
  • Excellent observation and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management, internal and external clients.
  • PC skills to include MS Office Products- Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Beginner knowledge of industry terminology and statutory compliance.

Nice-to-haves

  • AU (Associate in Commercial Underwriting), CPCU, CIC, AINS Designations or coursework towards designation a plus.
