About the position

The Workforce Career and Credentials Coach at Eastern Shore Community College is responsible for assisting students in workforce programs with career and educational planning services. This role involves guiding students through program admissions, financial aid processes, and successful credential completion, while also identifying work-based learning opportunities and supporting job placement and retention. The Coach collaborates with the Adult Education Department and connects students to supportive services to help them overcome barriers to success, ultimately contributing to the college's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with career and educational planning services.
  • Guide students through program admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Support students in successful credential completion.
  • Identify work-based learning opportunities for students.
  • Facilitate job placement and retention for students.
  • Collaborate with the Adult Education Department on Integrated Education and Training programs.
  • Connect students to supportive services at the college and in the region.
  • Work closely with students before, during, and after their credentialing programs.

Requirements

  • Ability to build relationships and provide excellent coaching services to diverse students.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Strong recordkeeping skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Basic knowledge of the workforce development system in Virginia and support resources.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with community college and workforce partners.
  • Knowledge of career assessment and development trends and methodologies.
  • Ability to be an effective listener.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications including MS Office and Internet Explorer.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience in counseling, human resources, social services, education, or a related field.
  • Understanding of career coaching principles and standards.
  • Completion or willingness to complete the Virginia Career Coach Certification Program within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Experience in and/or understanding of various Workforce Development programs, credentials, and financial aid.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a competitive salary range of $42,905 - $46,500 based on experience.
