About the position

The Workforce Career Coach at Danville Community College is responsible for recruiting and assisting students in non-credit programs that lead to high-demand employment. This role focuses on career and educational planning, program admissions, financial aid, job placement, and supporting student persistence through various strategies. The coach will work closely with students from diverse backgrounds to help them overcome barriers to success and connect them with supportive services.

Responsibilities

• Recruit students of all ages and backgrounds
• Assist with career and educational planning
• Manage program admissions and financial aid processes
• Facilitate work experiences and job placements
• Input key data into the Workforce Educational System (WES) software
• Implement retention strategies to support student persistence and program completion
• Connect students to supportive services in the region
• Assist with non-credit financial aid and scholarship applications
• Participate in ongoing professional development
• Perform other duties as assigned, including emergency assistance if required

Requirements

• Knowledge of counseling, human resources, social services, or a related field
• Pursue Virginia Career Coach certification within 12 months of hire
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders
• Knowledge of workforce systems and support resources for student success
• Skills in recruitment, coaching, and career assessment
• Ability to develop individual action plans and assist with job search skills
• Experience in building networks with workforce partners and employers
• Understanding of workforce development programs and labor market information
• Effective problem-solving skills and ability to work with diverse populations
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media

Nice-to-haves

• Currently holds a Virginia Career Coach certification
