About the position

The Workforce Career Coach at Danville Community College is responsible for recruiting and assisting students in noncredit programs that lead to high-demand employment. This role focuses on career and educational planning, program admissions, financial aid, and job placement, while also supporting student persistence and program completion through various strategies and resources.

Responsibilities

• Recruiting students of all ages and backgrounds
• Career and educational planning
• Program admissions
• Financial Aid assistance
• Job placement support
• Managing key data in the Workforce Educational System (WES) non-credit software
• Implementing retention strategies to support student persistence
• Assisting students in overcoming barriers to success
• Connecting students to supportive services in the region
• Assisting with non-credit financial aid and scholarship applications
• Participating in ongoing professional development
• Performing other duties as assigned, including emergency assistance if required

Requirements

• Knowledge of counseling, human resources, social services, or a related field
• Pursue Virginia Career Coach certification within 12 months of hire
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders including public, community colleges, workforce partners, and employers
• Knowledge of the workforce system and support resources for student success
• Skills in recruitment, coaching, career assessment, and job search techniques
• Ability to communicate and build networks with workforce partners and stakeholders
• Experience working with employers for job referrals and placements
• Understanding of workforce development programs and credentials
• Familiarity with labor market information analysis
• Knowledge of student resources including financial aid and supportive services
• Effective problem-solving skills
• Experience working with diverse populations

Nice-to-haves

• Currently holds a Virginia Career Coach certification
• Experience with Microsoft Office and social media
