The Workforce Development Specialist (Austin - BSU Recruiter) position at the Texas Workforce Commission is a vital role within the Workforce Solutions Capital Area (WFSCA) Business Solutions team. The specialist will engage in core business activities that enhance productivity and drive measurable outcomes. This includes researching, developing, and implementing effective recruiting strategies to connect businesses with qualified candidates for professional-level positions and work-based learning opportunities. The role requires outreach efforts to build a robust customer base and maintain relationships with regional employers. As a Workforce Development Specialist, you will be responsible for performing routine employment work under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for independent judgment. You will learn the mission of the team and the methods to achieve team goals, familiarize yourself with the programs and supporting documents, and collaborate closely with team members to identify and develop candidate pools for specific positions. Your communication skills will be essential as you will be discussing Workforce Solutions Capital Area services with employers, soliciting their approval to post job openings, and serving as a liaison between new employers and the Business Solutions team. Additionally, you will document your efforts and results, ensuring that all activities are tracked and reported accurately. Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and implement effective recruiting strategies to connect businesses with qualified candidates.
  • Perform routine employment work under moderate supervision.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and develop candidate pools for specific professional-level positions.
  • Communicate with employers to discuss Workforce Solutions Capital Area services.
  • Solicit employer approval to post open positions in WorkInTexas.com.
  • Serve as a liaison between new employers and the Business Solutions team.
  • Initiate and facilitate employer engagement by providing relevant materials and guidance.
  • Document efforts and results of recruitment activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years and six months of full-time qualifying experience in gathering information, interviewing or counseling; direct social work; eligibility determination; or in workforce development issues and programs and customer service.
  • Fifteen semester hours of accredited college work may be substituted for each six months of experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, technology, and computer skills.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn applicant-tracking software or other recruitment systems.
  • Ability to develop strategies and solutions.
