About the position

The Workforce Education Coordinator for Secondary Special Education is responsible for facilitating work-based educational experiences for students with disabilities. This role involves collaboration with CTE teachers, employers, and students to ensure effective transitions into the workforce, while also providing support and guidance throughout the process. The coordinator will monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings to align educational plans with work experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with CTE teachers and students to determine student readiness for work-based educational experiences.
  • Assist with establishing a presence among employers to promote work-based educational experiences for students with disabilities.
  • Identify and prepare employers to provide work-based experiences for students with disabilities.
  • Accompany students to worksites for interviews and shadowing experiences when needed.
  • Support students with new employee orientations and their transition to the work-based learning environment.
  • Monitor, document, and support students during work-based experiences on an ongoing basis.
  • Supervise students while on the work-based education experience.
  • Maintain appropriate student records including employer training agreements and performance assessments.
  • Meet with parents of students with disabilities to discuss the importance of work-based experiences.
  • Serve as a liaison among job site supervisors, CTE teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide input and manage behavior plans for students when applicable.
  • Revise tasks and provide task analysis for specific jobs as it relates to student comprehension.
  • Assist and advise employers with accommodations for students.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as needed.
  • Evaluate job sites and work-based experiences for safety and appropriateness.
  • Provide job placement services to complete each student's transition plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a K-12 setting.
  • Must possess a valid Special Education teaching certification; Supervisor of Special Education certification preferred.
  • Specialized training and/or experience working with youth and young adults with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with ADA, IDEA, and various state regulations related to disabilities.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in occupational work experiences in various service occupations preferred.
  • Proficient with MAC/PC, office equipment, related software programs, and the Internet.
  • An exemplary attendance record is required.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing behavior plans for students.
  • Familiarity with job placement services and transition planning.
