About the position

The Working Farm Manager will oversee day-to-day crop production operations for a Colorado producer, requiring hands-on management and strong communication skills. This role involves supervising a small team, managing equipment, and ensuring effective farming practices to meet production goals.

Responsibilities

• Hire, train, and supervise workers engaged in farming activities such as planting, cultivating, irrigating, overseeing harvesting, and storing of crops.
• Steward farming equipment by inspecting its condition, performing daily maintenance, and ensuring safe operation.
• Analyze soil to determine types and quantities of fertilizer and other soil amendments required for maximum crop production.
• Oversee irrigation activities and implement feedback systems to minimize downtime and reduce risk of crop damage.
• Oversee the application of dry manure and compost to fields and manage the storage and handling of dairy effluent water.
• Keep environmental records on farming activities, including precipitation and solid application.
• Coordinate with the farm team on specific farming activities and perform weekly safety meetings with workers.

Requirements

• 5 years of row crop and forage production experience, with haylage and silage preferred.
• Good mechanical skills and aptitude, preferably with pivot irrigation operation and maintenance experience.
• Supervisory experience and solid production management experience.
