About the position

The Workplace Safety Representative 9-12 - Construction Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSH Act) and other safety regulations in various construction workplaces. This role involves conducting investigations, analyzing workplace operations, and providing recommendations to minimize safety risks. The position operates independently, requiring a strong understanding of safety standards and regulations to promote a safe working environment for Michigan workers.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze workplace operations, environment, tools, equipment, and processes in construction settings.
  • Conduct investigations and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Provide recommendations to improve workplace safety and health standards.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision to enforce safety regulations.
  • Establish and maintain an official workstation for travel purposes in designated counties.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related fields.
  • Experience requirements vary by level: 0-3 years of professional experience in workplace safety investigations and analysis depending on the level applied for.
  • Possession of a Michigan driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in construction or general industry safety compliance.
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSH Act).
