About the position

As a Workstation Solutions Engineer at Lenovo, you will play a crucial role in testing and validating unique solutions and proof of concepts for our ThinkStation and ThinkPad P-series workstation products. This position involves a deep dive into the analysis of various components such as CPU, memory, GPU, network, and storage, ensuring that our products meet the high standards expected by our customers. You will collaborate closely with marketing managers and solution architects to investigate and validate both existing and new solutions, focusing on areas like remote capabilities, AI integration, workload balancing, and performance improvements. Your expertise will be essential in developing prototype software and hardware that push the boundaries of what our workstations can achieve. In this role, you will be responsible for building systems and swapping hardware components as needed, including CPUs, GPUs, memory, and storage devices. You will also install operating systems, drivers, BIOS, and firmware updates to ensure optimal performance. Testing proof of concept designs in both hardware and software will be a key part of your responsibilities, and you will provide valuable feedback on any issues that may hinder the success of these concepts based on your design knowledge and debugging analysis. Additionally, you will manage and support customer engagements for testing proof of concepts, ensuring that our solutions meet customer needs and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Test and validate unique solutions and proof of concepts on ThinkStation and ThinkPad P-series workstation products.
  • Analyze CPU, memory, GPU, network, storage, and other components of workstation products.
  • Collaborate with marketing managers and solution architects to investigate and validate existing and new solutions.
  • Build systems and swap hardware components as needed, including CPUs, GPUs, memory, and storage devices.
  • Install operating systems, drivers, BIOS, and firmware updates.
  • Test proof of concept designs in both hardware and software and provide feedback on issues blocking success.
  • Manage and support customer engagements for testing proof of concepts.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
  • 1+ years of experience with technical knowledge of computer architecture and key components.
  • 1+ years of experience with Windows and/or Linux operating systems, BIOS, and device drivers.
  • Experience with Windows OS is a must.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Linux is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn new concepts and take on new challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer-first attitude required.
  • Positive professional attitude with flexibility for change depending on the needs of the business.
  • Technical knowledge of PC hardware and components.
  • Proficiency in hardware testing and debugging tools.
