About the position

The World Language Lead Teacher for Spanish at Codman Academy Charter Public School is responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters student growth and achievement. This position requires a dedicated educator who is passionate about the mission of Codman Academy and the EL Education philosophy, which emphasizes experiential learning and social justice. The Lead Teacher will plan, organize, and implement an instructional program that meets the diverse needs of students in grades K1-4, ensuring that all students are guided to meet and exceed academic standards. The role involves extensive preparation, including developing a comprehensive yearly game plan aligned with state standards and assessments. The Lead Teacher will design lessons that are not only aligned with high standards but also incorporate a variety of teaching strategies to engage students actively in their learning. This includes planning diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adapting lessons to address misconceptions and learning needs. The Lead Teacher will also be responsible for creating a classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and positive social-emotional interactions among students. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the Lead Teacher will engage with families and the community, ensuring that parents and guardians are informed and involved in their children's education. This includes clear communication about expectations, progress, and opportunities for involvement. The position also requires a commitment to professional development, collaboration with colleagues, and a willingness to reflect on and improve teaching practices continuously. The Lead Teacher will report directly to the Principal or designee and is expected to contribute positively to the school community through leadership and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement an appropriate instructional program for Spanish language learning.
  • Develop a yearly game plan aligned with state standards and assessments.
  • Design lessons with clear, measurable goals aligned with standards and expedition outcomes.
  • Create and administer diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to monitor student learning.
  • Anticipate student misconceptions and develop strategies to address them.
  • Engage students in active learning through relevant and motivating lessons.
  • Utilize high-quality, multicultural learning materials and technology in lesson design.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes respect and responsibility.
  • Communicate high expectations and provide consistent feedback to students.
  • Involve parents and guardians in the educational process and maintain open lines of communication.
  • Participate in professional development and collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Successful teaching experience in an urban public school, grades K1-4.
  • Experience leading students to significant academic gains.
  • Strong content knowledge in Spanish language and child development.
  • Expertise in classroom management and differentiation strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in curriculum development and professional growth.
  • SEI endorsement and passing scores on MTELs in required subjects.

Nice-to-haves
