About the position

The World Language Lead Teacher for Spanish at Codman Academy Charter School is a full-time position responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an instructional program that meets the needs of students in grades K1-4. The role is designed to create a learning environment that encourages students to meet and exceed academic standards. The Lead Teacher will work closely with the Principal or designee and is expected to start in August 2024, continuing through June 2025. The position requires a commitment to the school's mission and the EL Education philosophy, which emphasizes experiential learning and social justice. The Lead Teacher will demonstrate subject area expertise and a deep understanding of child development, ensuring that lessons are aligned with state standards and assessments. Responsibilities include developing a comprehensive yearly plan, designing engaging lessons that motivate students, and implementing effective classroom management strategies. The teacher will also be responsible for assessing student learning through various methods and providing feedback to students and their families. In addition to instructional duties, the Lead Teacher will participate in professional development opportunities, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to the school community. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, a strong commitment to student success, and the ability to foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Successful teaching experience in an urban public school, grades K1-4.
  • Experience leading students to significant academic gains.
  • Strong content knowledge in the Spanish language.
  • Experience working with special needs students.
  • Classroom management expertise and a love for collaborative curriculum development.
  • SEI endorsement and passing scores on MTELs in the required subject.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with experiential learning and social justice education.
  • Ability to design multicultural learning materials and integrate technology into lessons.
