About the position

The Wound Care Specialist provides clinical expertise, education, consultation, leadership, and research related to wound, skin, ostomy, and continence care. This role serves as a resource for patients, staff, physicians, and management, ensuring efficient and compassionate care throughout the organization. The specialist is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for various conditions, promoting professional nursing practice and effective communication within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical expertise and consultation regarding wound, skin, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for wounds, fistulae, pressure ulcers, skin breakdown, ostomy care, and incontinence.
  • Educate and support staff and patients in wound care practices.
  • Facilitate the development of collegial relationships among staff and management.
  • Promote the profession of nursing and represent the organization positively.
  • Allocate resources effectively to ensure quality care.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and management.

Requirements

  • BSN in nursing preferred; Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Certification in Wound Care is required; Ostomy certification is preferred.
  • RI Registered Nurse licensure; BLS certification required.
  • 2-3 years of progressive experience in clinical practice in the medical/surgical area.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in stressful situations.
  • Strong communication and active listening skills.
  • Problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented approach.
  • Financial and personnel management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic and intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent project development skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork and team collaboration.
  • Understanding of Quality Improvement Theory and tools.
