About the position

The Writer-Editor position in the Media and Communications Division of NAVSAFECOM involves creating and editing a variety of written materials, including articles, promotional content, and web-based stories. The role requires collaboration with various directorates to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the content produced, as well as overseeing the visual design and layout of publications.

Responsibilities

  • Write articles and edit submissions from contributors, including news items and feature stories.
  • Plan content for promotional materials such as magazines, web stories, and safety bulletins in collaboration with sponsoring directorates.
  • Gather and verify information through research and interviews with subject matter experts.
  • Determine the visual design, layout, and graphic composition of print and web materials.
  • Review finished layouts for completeness, accuracy, and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in federal service or equivalent experience in the private/public sector.
  • Experience in producing creative and informative media products.
  • Proficiency in creating visually appealing web content using software like Adobe Creative Suite and SharePoint.
  • Ability to interview subjects effectively, even those reluctant to share information.
  • Experience in analyzing data and research to produce strategic marketing content.
  • Skills in engaging writers and technical advisors to meet audience needs.
