About the position

The Writer-Editor position in the Media and Communications Division of NAVSAFECOM involves creating and editing a variety of media products, including articles, magazines, and web content. The role requires collaboration with various directorates to plan promotional materials and ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the content produced. The Writer-Editor will also be responsible for the visual design and layout of materials, ensuring they are engaging and informative for the intended audience.

Responsibilities

  • Write articles and edit submissions from contributors, including news items and feature stories.
  • Plan content for promotional materials in collaboration with sponsoring directorates.
  • Gather, develop, and verify information through research and interviews with subject matter experts.
  • Determine the visual appearance, design, layout, and graphic composition of print and web-based materials.
  • Review finished layouts for completeness, accuracy, and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 or equivalent in the private/public sector.
  • Experience in producing creative and informative media products.
  • Ability to create visually appealing web content using software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and SharePoint.
  • Experience in interviewing subjects, including those reluctant to share information.
  • Ability to analyze data and research to produce strategic marketing content.
  • Experience in engaging writers and technical advisors to identify audience needs.
  • Skills in acquiring, copy editing, producing, printing, marketing, and distributing information.
