About the position

The Writer Editor position at UC Irvine Health involves serving as the lead writer and editor for the UCI School of Medicine. This is a hybrid role that may require attendance at events during evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Craft and edit news and feature stories, press releases, profiles, newsletters, scripts, and talking points for leadership.
• Develop and edit marketing copy for the website and social media channels.
• Collaborate with the communications team to support public relations efforts for the UCI School of Medicine.
• Conduct research, select sources, and conduct interviews to ensure accuracy in written pieces.
• Distill complex studies and research into engaging and informative content for diverse audiences.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of writing fundamentals, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation.
• Familiarity with editorial styles, including AP Style and publication guidelines.
• Ability to write clear and engaging copy tailored to target audiences.
• Knowledge of the UCI School of Medicine's mission, goals, and policies.
• Understanding of issues in higher education, particularly in science and healthcare.
• Proficiency in computer applications for publishing and web production.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with a remote team.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and attention to detail skills.
• Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with photography and videography.
