The Writer-Editor position at the Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA) involves creating and refining high-quality written materials that communicate the agency's stance on transportation security issues. This role is critical in supporting the agency's mission to safeguard the American way of life by ensuring clear and effective communication across various platforms. The position requires collaboration with TSA management and staff to develop editorial standards and provide guidance on correspondence and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit high-quality products that explain and interpret the Agency's stance on transportation security issues.
  • Research, write, edit, and coordinate materials for signature by TSA management officials.
  • Support the development and management of the TSA Style Guide and Correspondence Manual.
  • Act as an editorial advisor for various correspondence signed by TSA management officials.
  • Identify process improvements related to writing and review, providing solutions to writing challenges.
  • Review executive-level correspondence and reports for adherence to TSA and DHS standards.
  • Participate in TSA teams to review writing and editorial policies and guidelines.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at the SV-H or GS-12 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.
  • Experience in researching, compiling, and conveying complex written material related to organizational missions.
  • Ability to draft and apply editorial knowledge to review and edit executive-level correspondence and policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal plain language best practices.
  • Familiarity with the development of style guides and correspondence standards.
