About the position

The Writing and Digital Media Specialist at South Texas College of Law Houston is a full-time role focused on enhancing the college's public relations and digital presence. This position involves creating engaging content for media outreach, managing social media interactions, and maintaining website updates. The specialist will work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to execute social media strategies and contribute to the overall communications efforts of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Write press releases, feature articles, and editorial content to highlight the college's achievements and initiatives.
  • Support media outreach by coordinating with internal departments to gather story ideas and provide information for press inquiries.
  • Assist in building and maintaining media relationships to support positive coverage.
  • Develop and publish content that supports the college's social media strategy, aligning with the brand's voice and goals.
  • Engage with audiences across platforms by posting relevant content, responding to comments, and fostering community interaction.
  • Monitor social media analytics and engagement metrics, providing insights to enhance content and refine strategies.
  • Assist in maintaining the institutional website by making timely content updates and revisions.
  • Collaborate with departments to gather updated information for website sections and ensure consistency in messaging.
  • Write, edit, and proofread content for newsletters, email campaigns, and marketing collateral.
  • Support marketing campaigns with compelling content across digital and traditional channels.
  • Track and analyze PR and social media performance metrics, providing regular insights to the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Assist in tracking website analytics to understand user behavior and optimize content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in public relations writing, social media content management, and website maintenance.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging content.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or Canva) and analytics tools is a plus.
