About the position

The Writing Tutor position at Northampton Community College is a part-time role focused on supporting student success through personalized tutoring. Tutors will help students understand course material, develop effective learning strategies, and enhance their academic skills. The role may involve working with students individually or in small groups, either on campus or online. Tutors will receive training and are expected to maintain accurate records and participate in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support student success by providing personalized tutoring sessions.
  • Help students gain a deeper understanding of course material and develop effective learning strategies.
  • Engage students in critical thinking and assist them in acquiring additional academic skills.
  • Meet with students individually or in small groups, both on campus and online.
  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress.
  • Respond promptly to correspondence from Learning Center staff.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of the subject(s) to be tutored.
  • An Associate degree or above in the discipline or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A grade of B or above in each course the candidate intends to tutor.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and an interest in working with a diverse population of students.
  • Patience and a genuine desire to help others learn and succeed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a peer or professional tutor.
