About the position

The Writing Tutor position at Collin County Community College involves providing tutoring support services to students, focusing on enhancing their writing skills. The role requires assisting students in understanding the writing process, developing thesis statements, organizing ideas, and correcting papers for grammar and fluency. Tutors will maintain records of sessions and communicate with professors regarding student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Support students' writing efforts through tutoring.
  • Maintain record of each tutoring session with student.
  • Report promptly to student's professor on the material covered in the tutoring session if applicable.
  • Attend staff meetings or professional development as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in English or a closely related field for Level I; Bachelor's degree for Level II; Master's degree for Level III.
  • Writing proficiency.
  • Some tutoring experience for Level I; one year teaching/tutoring experience for Level II; proven proficiency in writing for Level III.
