About the position

The WRRF Operations Technician I position is an entry-level, safety-sensitive role located at the wastewater treatment facility in Bentonville, Arkansas. This position requires a strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and safe vehicle operational skills. The technician will work under direct supervision and must adhere to all safety policies and procedures while performing essential activities related to the operation and maintenance of equipment and buildings at the facility. The role involves shift work, and the technician must demonstrate excellent attendance and the ability to work harmoniously with the public, supervisors, and co-workers. In this role, the technician will be responsible for understanding and following both oral and written instructions, as well as communicating clearly and concisely. The technician will gain knowledge of wastewater treatment operations, including government regulations and discharge permit requirements. Responsibilities include the proper collection of water samples, conducting basic analytical wastewater analysis, and data entry for regulatory and in-house reporting. The technician will monitor plant equipment, gauges, meters, and dials, assisting in basic maintenance and equipment operation to ensure compliance with permits. Additionally, the technician will maintain the plant buildings, grounds, and vehicles for the department. The position requires the ability to work shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may involve periodic standby status for emergencies. Attendance and the ability to foster positive working relationships are essential elements of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Gain knowledge of wastewater treatment operations, including government regulations and discharge permit requirements.
  • Properly collect water samples and conduct basic analytical wastewater analysis.
  • Enter data for regulatory and in-house reporting.
  • Monitor plant equipment, gauges, meters, and dials.
  • Assist in basic maintenance and equipment operation to ensure permit compliance.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public and co-workers.
  • Maintain plant buildings, grounds, and vehicles for the department.
  • Perform shift work, including weekends and holidays, and be available for emergency standby.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Two years of general work experience.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in small group situations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must pass Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Class I wastewater treatment certification within one year of employment.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
