About the position

The WSF Capital Project IT Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful completion of technology acquisition, development, integration, and implementation projects for the Washington State Ferries (WSF). This role involves managing IT projects that impact safety, security, and operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and leading a team of IT professionals to modernize legacy applications and improve technology infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee IT projects impacting safety, security, and operations within the WSF Division.
  • Oversee the development and execution of requests for proposal (RFP) related to IT.
  • Develop and maintain a climate of excellence based on personal action and encouragement.
  • Ensure successful project management and implementation of approved technology projects by mentoring IT project managers and analysts.
  • Conduct research and stay current on technologies, evaluating proposals from across the agency.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize legacy applications with current technologies.
  • Supervise, plan, lead, and organize the work of the TSD WSF Capital Projects team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, business, or a related field with nine years of progressive professional experience, including seven years as an IT Project Manager.
  • Associate's degree in Information Technology or a related field with eleven years of progressive professional experience, including nine years as an IT Project Manager.
  • Thirteen years of progressive professional experience with eleven years as an IT Project Manager.
  • Five years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Expert knowledge of project management tools, techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes including contracts and vendor management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project Management Institute (PMI)/Project Management Professional (PMP), Scrum, and/or LEAN Certification(s).
  • Experience preparing operational budgets.
  • Experience with large, multi-agency projects.
  • Experience promoting effective coordination between work groups.
