About the position

The WTCE Autobody Technology Lab Assistant position is a part-time role focused on providing essential technical laboratory maintenance support within the assigned discipline of Autobody Technology. This position is part of a continuous recruitment effort aimed at building a pool of interested applicants to meet the needs arising from student enrollment fluctuations. The lab assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring that the laboratory environment is conducive to learning and that all necessary supplies and equipment are available and well-maintained. In this role, the lab assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include maintaining knowledge of the duties and functions of the assigned division and staff, which is essential for providing appropriate support. The assistant will also be tasked with ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment for laboratories and stock rooms, assisting faculty with the preparation and administration of student assignments, and actively participating in the planning process for lab activities. Additionally, the lab assistant will help develop and enforce safety practices in the instructional laboratories, ensuring a safe learning environment for all students. The position requires a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work area, as well as performing other job-specific duties as assigned by the division chairperson or appropriate vice president. This role is vital for the smooth operation of the Autobody Technology program and contributes significantly to the overall educational experience of the students.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of the duties and functions of the assigned division and staff to provide appropriate support.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment for laboratories and/or stock rooms.
  • Assist faculty with the preparation and administration of student assignments.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of safety practices in the instructional laboratories.
  • Participate actively in the planning process.
  • Perform other job-specific duties as assigned by the division chairperson or appropriate VP.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in the field.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to articulate professional responses to common inquiries and/or complaints from students, faculty, staff, or the public-at-large.
  • Ability to write using proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, students, faculty, staff, or the public-at-large.
  • Ability to apply and understand standard mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and other mathematical functions as appropriate to the division's need for such skill.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and to the philosophy of the community college system.
